Surrender the Object

A process of creative exchange, as part of the London Design Festival 2017, first brought us together.

This exchange of works, and subsequently ideas, has led us to explore the very nature of the ways we communicate through visual language and the importance of materials throughout this non- verbal process.

A year ago we exchanged a collection of 10 hand selected objects. Each presented to one another, one in a hand crafted ceramic box and the other in a series of wrapping and bindings.

These objects have been the starting point for our individual responses; and have influenced or informed all the work made this exhibition Arthouse1 in June 2020.

Sarah’s initial approach is often led through intensive observation and drawing. Working with collections and compositions, edges negative space and form are some of the key elements of focus. Her final wall hung works will be hand crafted from oak bark tanned leather.

Kim is fascinated by material language and process-led thinking, where each object received has been dissected down to its material makeup or referenced by its geological significance. Four collections of work will be shown including wall hung pieces and smaller objects each with its own narrative.

The original objects we exchanged will also be on show throughout the exhibition.

Sadly Arthouse1 closed in April 2020. We are currently looking for a suitable gallery to show this new collection of work.
